Unsecured loans could be needed for romantic Brits

Brits hoping to buy the perfect gift for their loved ones on Valentine's Day might want to consider taking out unsecured loans to free up some extra income.

According to Halifax Home Insurance, one in five people will be splurging on expensive jewellery for their partner.

In addition, a large proportion of Britons are expected to propose, with ten per cent of jewellery being bought for Valentine's Day predicted to be engagement rings.

Commenting on the study, head of underwriting for the firm David Rochester said: "At this time of year love is most definitely in the air and many people will be planning to pop the question with an expensive diamond, or buy a valuable gift."

He added that Brits shelling out on a special present should make sure it is covered by insurance for both inside and outside the home.

Those looking to whisk their partners away for Valentine's Day might want to consider heading to Greece, which Ionian Weddings says is one of the most romantic destinations for couples.
